What makes a snack healthy? We found the perfect healthy snack
I often wonder if it’s just me that keeps getting those untimely hunger pangs. A look around and I realize I am not the only one! A whole lot of people are consuming various snacks to beat their untimely hunger cravings. The whole worry is that are these sugary or fried, greasy snacks healthy for us? While the unanimous answer is ‘Not really’, it does push us to think – what is the perfect healthy snack?
So, this post is all about healthy snacks that you can munch, guilt-free. Read to know more!
Low in sodium content
Have a look at a pack of chips, and you will be shocked to know the salt content in it! Salt is an additive used in most processed foods. Consumption of food that has high salt levels has been tied to hypertension. Thus, the perfect snack would be any food that has less or no salt at all.
Say no to oily and fried stuff
Once in a while, binging on your favorite chips is not that bad. However, these fried and oily processed foods are not great options for everyday snacking. If possible, you can try whipping out some fantastic snacks right at home. Nothing beats the home-made stuff, after all!
Although, if you don’t have the time or energy to make these snacks, don’t worry! Loads of brands are coming up with healthy, oil-free baked snacks. All you have to do is be on the lookout for these products on your next shopping trip!
Ditch the sugary stuff
The sugar rush that you get after eating sweet food isn’t great. Chocolates and cakes may seem tempting as snacking options, but steer clear of them. Your body doesn’t require a sudden spike of sugar. All it needs is food that slowly releases sugar and maintains the blood sugar levels in your body.
So, where do we find snacks that are low on sugar levels? You can switch to clean foods such as cacao, dates and nuts, as they are perfectfor snacking.
Cacao, known for its rich, chocolate flavor, contains antioxidants and fibers. Energy balls made with cacao are sheer indulgence! Cacao is healthy, and so you can bask in cacao bliss without any worries! Dates are a great option, too, but binging on them wouldn’t make sense. Dates contain fructose and over-eating them would completely beat your anti-sugar motive. Nuts are tasty, easy to find, and they complement every diet form that has ever existed! They are high in good fat and minerals. You are free to munch on nuts, even for diabetics.
Another plus point is that these foods are low on the glycemic index. This means that they will keep your blood sugar levels steady, instead of causing a rapid flux in them. So, whenever you look out for snacks, try finding ones that are lower on the glycemic index. Also you can try this perfect healthy snack
